Web developers can be considered engineers when they architect complex systems, write efficient code, and ensure scalability and security. They solve technical problems just like traditional software engineers, especially when working on custom web apps or backend logic beyond simple site building.

Titles vary by organization. A front-end developer focused mainly on styling may not be called an engineer, but someone who handles networking, databases, and performance definitely applies engineering principles. The difference is less about the web and more about the depth of problem-solving involved.
