I often see web design and UI/UX used interchangeably. How different are their responsibilities and workflows?

Web designers mainly focus on designing and sometimes building websites—layout, colors, responsive structure. UI/UX designers handle product usability, research, prototypes, and user journeys across web or app platforms. So UI/UX is more strategic and behavior-focused, while web design focuses on the visual site interface.

Web design delivers what a site looks like and how it is built. UI/UX explores why users act, what problems they face, and how to make interactions smooth. UI/UX defines the experience; web design executes the visible front-end version of that experience.
